The DreamIf you've ever found yourself endlessly roaming the internet in search of that one great band that matches your taste, you've undoubtedly wished for this site. We all have our particulars, our preferences, and it can be hard to find that one musician, movie, or whatever, that you've never heard about. This site aims to change that. This site is driven by you, by everyone, by anyone. This site aims to be that friend that is your resource for anything, that friend that says "Hey, if you love...then you'd definitely love...." Anyone can add, anyone can edit, anyone can create links. By giving all users the ability to add, edit, link, rate all items on this site, the dream is that tastes will diversify, artistic borders will cease existing. That little unsigned, garage band has the chance to be heard. That indie film has the chance to be seen, and the end-user is enabled to learn more about their loves, find new loves, and in an essence: pollenate their preferences. There are some sites that are already dedicated to providing recommendations. But as I found myself, and as many I've talked to found, the recommendations that come from these site are often unreliable and disappointing. The main reason, is because they've been driven by scripts. Scripts which log what songs get listened to the most by which user, etc. etc. My resolution is simple: Why have a middle man...or in this case, a computer, make the recommendations? That being said, this site is all about peer-recommendation, a term I'm coining right now. The idea is, your peers make the recommendations, rather than scripts. Revolutionary, isn't it? People have asked why there no "genres" on this site. Where there is no rock genre, no hip-hop, no horror movies, no dramas, etc. This was a personal choice. I've found that with genres, you create an immediate barrior in your head. Some people will not listen to any HipHop if they like Rock. Purely based on principle. A principle that makes no sense to me. The goal of this site is to provide recommendations, not based on genres, not based on popularity, not based on record labels, or how much marketing went behind something. It is to provide recommendations that are purely 1 to 1, based on nothing but the style, the feeling of the book, album, movie, musician and so on. And I need your help to do that. |
