How do I add something?
To add a new item, you simply need to click the "ADD" button that's right at the top of the page. When you do this, select the category you want to add to, and fill out the details. Next, you'll be taken to a confirmation page. This page will show you your item, as well as any items that may already exist on the site. Select the appropriate one. Sometimes items have similar names, sometimes an item you're adding may already exist (with a slight variation in the name). Ensure the item doesn't exist before adding a new item. If you're adding an item that has a name similar to an already existing item, you'll be shown this item, and you'll have to confirm what you'd like to do at this point. After adding, you'll be taken to the description page where you can add a description about what you've just added.

How do I make a match-up?
Creating a match-up is just like adding a new item. To create a match-up, browse to the item you'd like to match-up with...say, the Beatles. There, you click the "Match Up" button, and enter in a musician you think is similar to The Beatles. If they already exist, the match-up will be made, if they don't exist you'll be asked to add a description about that musician. After this, you'll then be able to supply a description for the match-up you just created, and explain why you think those two items are the same. Note: This description goes for both items. In other words, if you relate the Beatles to the Rolling Stones, you'll only need to supply one description for the relationship, and it will appear on both the Beatles page and the Rolling Stones page.

How do I modify a description?
Simply hit the 'Edit Description' button. You can also see a description history by hitting the 'Change History' button.

Someone's ruined/vandalized a description. What do I do?
If someone added an item, and added a fake description you'll have to just supply a new one, as there will be no history to that description. If the item has existed for some time, then you should click 'Change History' and revert back to the best description available.

I disagree with a match-up. What do I do?
Hit the "DISAGREE" button. This will vote against the desription. Lower rated items appear lower on the list. Matchups with a really low rating will not appear by default, but require the user to click the "Show Lower Rated Match-Ups" button. Items are rated as follows: 5 of 5 people will have a higher rating than 4 of 5 people (for obvious reasons). 5 of 5 people will also appear higher than 4 of 4 people (because more people agreed and voted on the 5/5 item). 4 of 4 people will appear higher than 4 of 5.

What do I do with a spelling mistake in an item's name?
Flag it, with "Error in Name". This will notify admins, and they'll change the item to have the appropriate name. This means if an item has a "The" in the name, you should flag it. If there's an error in punctuation, capitalization, spelling mistake, first names are missing, you shuld flag it. Admins will then do their best to fix the problem.

I click on an items name, but then I can't see it's page. Why?
This is a bug. If you come across this please ensure you let us know. It typically should not happen, yet international characters are tough to predict, and this can sometimes cause problems. Please let us know immediately, but filing a bug report. It takes 2 seconds and makes this site better. You can hit the "Report a bug" at the bottom of the page.

Someone's entered a fake item, something that doesn't exist. What do I do?
Flag it! Admins will do their best to fix it as soon as possible.

How do I get the admins to take a look at something?
Again, flag it. Unless it's a bug, or something you just need us to look at. Then get in touch with us using the Contact page.

I've found a bug, what do I do?
File a bug report. This is important that you do this, so it let's us know about any problems and lets us address it quickly. It takes 2 seconds, and makes this site much better. If you come across a peculiarity on this site, let us know what you did, step by step, so we can go through the same actions in hopes to reproduce the bug. Thanks in advance!

How do I report that someone is constantly vandalizing the site?
If you notice that changes to descriptions constantly reappear, let us know asap. We'll look into it and take the appropriate actions. If you notice "This sucks" for example a particular item, and you remove it, but it keeps reappearing, let us know by using the Contact page.

How do I add multiple directors/musicians/authors to a movie/album/book?
Some movies have multiple directors, some books multiple authors, etc. Unfortunately, IfYouLove.net currently supports only a single creator for a single item. For the time being, please specify all other creators in the description. If the creator is a team, for example the Wachowski Brothers, and they always work together feel free to make the team an item.

What is this "SEED" button?
SEED is a BETA app on IfYouLove that lets you map out how all items are related. It's a sort of 6-degrees of separation idea, where you start with one item - say the Beatles. The Beatles is represented with a dandelion, and its seeds are all of the matchups. Double-Clicking a seed will "plant" it as a dandelion, and you can see all the seeds belonging to the new dandelion. It's just a fun little experimental app.

How do admins look into flagged items?
When you flag an item, we are notified through the admin-interface that there are flagged items. Admins will then examine all items that have been flagged, and will do the necessary research about an item to take the appropriate action. If there is a spelling mistake, for example, admins will do their best to find the appropriate spelling, etc.

How do admins decide if an item is appropriate or fake?
If an item is reported as "fake" admins will do the necessary research to decide whether or not it is in fact fake. There are many people who want to promote their new band, and there may be little information about that band that is available. IfYouLove.net has a more accepting stance than certain websites, and is willing to allow for brand new and unknown bands to list themselves on the site. If you exist elsewhere on the internet (by means of having a MySpace page, or your own site) then that's enough for us. The important thing is that people should be able to access you and/or your music in some way. Otherwise, what are you promoting?

How do I become an admin?
Contact us. Another step is to join our Street Team. You can do this by clicking "ABOUT" and then "STREET TEAM"

How do I report an unfair admin?
Admins will do their best to maintain the quality of the site, and be as fair as possible. Sometimes they'll need to make tough decisions, and sometimes that decision may or may not be the right one. If you feel an admin has done something wrong, let us know and we'll look into it, or at least provide you with a better explanation of the admin's actions.

Why are there no genres?
There are no genres on IfYouLove because one of our goals is to transcend genres. Many people form preconceived notions about a certain genre, and will avoid things when they find out it is part of that genre. In fact, it's hard not to. By classifying things into genres, this builds up a barrior around things, and that's exactly what we want to avoid. IfYouLove wants to transcend all invisible borders - whether it's national borders, genre borders, style borders, eras, whatever.

Why does a matchup only have one description?
Match-Ups are considered one-to-one. That means descriptions should apply for a match-up, in any way you look at it. If A is similar to B, and B is similar to A, you want to describe the match-up of B to A and A to B. You don't want to JUST describe B, or JUST describe A. Make sense? We hope so.

Why does a matchup appear for both items?
Again, Match-Ups are considered one-to-one. If you say that 'X' is similar to 'Y' we think you are also saying that 'Y' is similar to 'X'. We understand that this can produce some odd results in certain specific scenarios, but there's not much to be done about it. We don't think it makes sense (and it would take a lot more time and work) to have people reproduce every single match-up when it's appropriate - plus, generally saying "If you love X, then you'd love Y" should be the same as "If you love Y, then you'd love X", don't you think so?

Why don't you add _________ as a category?
There are many categories that we plan on adding to IfYouLove.net, however for the time being we are sticking to the 6 you currently see. Over time, however, we will be adding some more categories. We're always willing to hear your suggestions though, so don't hesitate to let us know about it. Even if you think it's an obvious one, that we're sure to have heard...you never know!

What is a "street team"?
A "Street Team" is a group of people who represent IfYouLove. They can be anywhere in the world, which is important because as a single person it's hard to be everywhere. The "Street Team" are ambassadors, emissaries of IfYouLove who help get the word out about the site, and also help out in getting local talent on to the site - local directors, musicians, and so on.
