a lot of the music i write is like a journal about my life. the places i've been set the backdrop and the people i've met are the charactors.

How to be a Spotlight Artist

cj vinson

cj vinson first picked up a guitar on his 12th birthday when his older brother greg gave him his old fender bullet. cj spent the next few years teaching himself pearl jam and nirvana tunes. in the summer of 1996 cj's friend gave him a bootleg from a dave matthews concert. for the next few years, cj and his friends followed the dave matthews band around the northeast and recording their shows. around this same time, cj began writing music.

during college in dallas tx, cj played at numerous college bars and jazz clubs in downtown and deep ellum. in texas, cj began listening to songwriters such as bob dylan and ryan adams. he began mixing the rhythmic strumming patters of dave matthews with an alt-country singing style and folky story telling lyrics.

when cj graduated he took a job with a wall street firm. after sitting in a cubical and staring at a computer screen for a few years cj decided he couldn't take it anymore. cj quit and moved to the lower east side of manhattan where he began meeting musicians, writing music, and playing at open mics.

while in new york, cj met julian rosse (a talented bass guitar player). the two formed a band and are now playing with mike tusay (drums) and greg vinson (lead guitar). the band has done limited studio work (with help from drummer dennis quinn) and is playing numerous shows around the city and the country.

cj will be releasing a cd in mid-february that is a collection of 8 songs recorded in new york. for a copy email cj at cjvinson@gmail.com
